Philadelphia, Pennsylvania robotics research center founded 1979 by Ruzena Bajcsy; 21,000 sq ft of lab space in Levine Hall and a Robotics MSE program.
The General Robotics, Automation, Sensing and Perception (GRASP) Laboratory is the robotics research center of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Founded in 1979 by Ruzena Bajcsy, it draws faculty from Electrical and Systems Engineering, Computer and Information Science, Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics and the university's medical school.
Research spans eight themes: biological systems and human and social interaction; computer vision and perception; dynamical systems and control; game-theoretic decision making; machine learning, AI and autonomous systems; multi-robot and multi-agent systems; planning, mapping, estimation and localization; and robot and mechanism design. Faculty groups such as the Kumar Lab, which works on aerial robots including a flight path optimization collaboration with MIT, and the Sung Robotics Lab run their own programs. The lab hosts a Robotics Master of Science in Engineering degree with an accelerated option, PhD training through the CIS, ESE and MEAM departments, a seminar series, and a Corporate Affiliate Program that connects companies with students and faculty.
GRASP occupies 21,000 square feet of research space on the fourth floor of Levine Hall. Recent initiatives include the GRASP LAWS project with Perry World House on governance of lethal autonomous weapons systems and K-12 outreach.
