Time Domain Corporation

Time Domain Corporation was founded in 1987 by Larry W. Fullerton and is headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama, within Cummings Research Park. The company established itself as a world leader in ultra-wideband (UWB) technology and in 1999 produced the world's first UWB silicon chipset, commercialized under the PulsON brand. Beginning in the mid-1990s, significant private investment allowed Time Domain to assemble a multidisciplinary team of RF engineers, ASIC designers, physicists, information theorists, and radar analysts dedicated to advancing UWB from laboratory research to commercial products.

Time Domain's PulsON product line is a family of OEM ranging, radar, and communications modules that deliver sub-centimeter precision location data for robotics, industrial personnel tracking, autonomous vehicles, and defense applications. The PulsON 410 (P410) packs two-way ranging and real-time communications into a compact 3-inch by 3-inch module with low power consumption, making it suitable for integration into mobile platforms and wearable tags. The PulsON 440 (P440), released in 2015, introduced a new proprietary UWB silicon chip with reduced form factor, improved power efficiency, and expanded hardware interface options including SPI and USB, and added through-wall radar capability alongside precision ranging. Time Domain played a direct role in prompting the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to amend its rules permitting commercial UWB operation, a milestone reached in February 2002, and in September 2002 a PulsON-based radio became the first UWB communications product to receive FCC certification.

In July 2016, Time Domain Systems was acquired by 5D Robotics, a company specializing in precision positioning for autonomous vehicles and robotic systems, which incorporated Time Domain's UWB ranging technology into its navigation stack. In February 2018, both Time Domain and 5D Robotics were acquired by Humatics Corporation, a Boston-based microlocation company focused on enabling precise coordination between people, machines, and infrastructure in rail, manufacturing, and autonomous vehicle environments. The PulsON UWB technology portfolio was absorbed into Humatics' broader microlocation platform, continuing to serve defense, industrial automation, and robotics customers under Humatics' product umbrella.
