Company Overview

Sunrise Robotics is an industrial robotics startup headquartered in Ljubljana, Slovenia, founded in 2023 by Tomaz Stolfa (CEO), Marko Thaler (CTO), and Joe Perrott (CCO). The founding team brings backgrounds from Waymo, Google, Red Bull, and Unity.

The company designs and manufactures intelligent, flexible robotic cells intended for diverse manufacturing applications. Rather than traditional, time-consuming manual programming, Sunrise Robotics trains its robots through simulation: engineers build a digital twin of the target manufacturing workstation, and robots learn tasks within that virtual environment before being shipped. Upon delivery, the systems can begin operating within hours. The company claims a deployment timeline of under 10 weeks for a new production line, compared to the industry standard of up to eight months for conventional industrial robots.

Sunrise Robotics uses two-armed robotic configurations designed for tasks such as assembly, pick-and-place, and components handling in sectors including consumer electronics manufacturing, high-performance battery production, and supercar development. As of June 2025, the company reported operational robotic cells running in manufacturing plants across Europe and signed letters of intent with more than 10 customers.

In June 2025, Sunrise Robotics emerged from stealth with an $8.5 million seed round (approximately EUR 7.3 million), led by Plural, with participation from Seedcamp. Total funding at that point was reported as $17 million. The company operates as a pan-European entity, drawing engineering talent across the continent while maintaining its primary headquarters in Ljubljana.

Target industries include electronics manufacturing, automotive/supercar assembly, and EV battery production. The core value proposition is reducing the time and cost of deploying industrial automation for small-to-mid-scale manufacturers who cannot justify the multi-month integration timelines typical of traditional industrial robot deployments.
