Schwan Cosmetics International GmbH is a private-label cosmetics manufacturer headquartered in Heroldsberg, near Nuremberg, Germany. It is a subsidiary of the Schwan-STABILO Group (Schwanhaeusser Industrie Holding), a family-owned business whose roots trace to an 1855 Nuremberg pencil factory. Schwan Cosmetics began in 1927, when it developed what it describes as the world's first cosmetic pencil, the eyebrow pencil, and became a separate division of the group in 1992.
The company manufactures color cosmetics under contract for other beauty brands, including eye pencils, liquid eyeliner, kajal and kohl, eyeshadow sticks, mascara, lip liners, lipstick pencils, concealer sticks, highlighters, face primers, and powder blush. It operates nine production facilities in Germany, the Czech Republic, the United States, and other countries, employing more than 3,000 people serving customers in roughly 130 countries. Its Produktionstechnik subsidiary designs and builds the high-speed machines used on Schwan's pencil and color-cosmetics lines in-house, because standard equipment is not built for these formats.
Schwan Cosmetics uses Microsoft HoloLens augmented-reality glasses so headquarters engineers can see through a field technician's view and guide machine repairs at other plants in real time, and has run a project with IT provider ARICOMA at its Czech Republic plant applying AI to production planning and waste reduction. The company holds RSPO Mass Balance certification at its German and Czech sites.
