Company Overview

Robotiz3d Ltd is a UK road-maintenance robotics company spun out of the University of Liverpool's School of Engineering in 2020. It develops AI-based systems that detect road surface defects and seal cracks and repair potholes with semi-autonomous vehicles, under the product family name ARRES (Autonomous Road Repair System). Co-founder Dr Sebastiano Fichera is a Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Liverpool. The company moved into the CERN Business Incubator Centre at STFC Daresbury in Cheshire, which gives it subsidised space, secure storage and testing facilities for its autonomous vehicle.

The website lists three products. ARRES Eye is an automated pothole detection system that provides road condition data and repair prioritisation for highway authorities. ARRES Prevent is a semi-autonomous robot that finds and seals cracks before they develop into potholes. ARRES Ultra is a semi-autonomous vehicle that both seals cracks and fixes potholes, combining detection, prevention and repair in one system; it was described as still in development in February 2026. Robotiz3d claims 90% cost savings compared with traditional road maintenance methods, 70% faster repairs than manual methods and three times lower CO2 emissions through more efficient processes and electric technologies.

ARRES Prevent was developed with highways engineers at Hertfordshire County Council and was presented in January 2024 as the first autonomous road repair system: it uses AI imaging to identify and characterise cracks and potholes, then fills cracks to keep out surface water. The robot was tested on roads in Hertfordshire in 2024. Reporting in The Times in February 2025 noted that regulatory hurdles remain before fully autonomous robots can repair public streets.

Robotiz3d raised GBP 1.25 million from external investors in its 2022 funding round, and a2e Industries is a company partner and investor. It has also received support from the Horizon Europe Robotics Inspection and Maintenance Activities initiative, CERN and an Innovate UK SMART grant, and it lists the Autoware Foundation and NVIDIA as technology partners. Media coverage in February 2026 describes Robotiz3d as offering its AI-powered road maintenance robots as a service. The company's stated mission is to help build a safe and sustainable road infrastructure through intelligent, automated maintenance and repair.
