Overland AI

Overland AI is a Seattle, Washington-based defense technology company founded in 2022. The company was co-founded by Byron Boots, who serves as CEO, and focuses on developing autonomous driving technology for uncrewed ground vehicles (UGVs) operating in rugged, off-road, and GPS-degraded environments.

Overland AI's primary autonomy software platform is called OverDrive, which enables autonomous navigation across challenging terrain including forests, mountains, and unimproved tracks where GPS signals may be unreliable or absent. OverDrive is designed to be hardware-agnostic and integrates with existing military ground vehicles as well as Overland AI's own purpose-built platforms.

The company's flagship unmanned ground vehicle is the ULTRA (Unmanned Light Tactical Resupply Autonomy) platform, an attritable off-road tactical UGV designed specifically for military logistics and resupply missions. ULTRA weighs approximately 2,500 pounds and is capable of carrying payloads up to 1,000 pounds across difficult terrain. It is built to support logistics, breaching, and other combat-relevant missions for US Army and Marine Corps units.

Overland AI has established itself as the first ground autonomy company to serve as a prime contractor on a production contract for the US military. In June 2026, the US Marine Corps awarded Overland AI a production contract valued at approximately $20 million to deliver autonomous ground vehicles in support of Marine air defense operations (MADIS resupply missions). Prior customers have included units from I Corps, III Armored Corps, XVIII Airborne Corps, and US Special Operations Command.

The company has raised $132 million in total funding. A $32 million Series A was led by 8VC with participation from Point72 Ventures, Overmatch Ventures, Shasta Ventures, Ascend, Osage University Partners, and Caprock. A subsequent $100 million round was also led by 8VC, joined by Valor Equity Partners, StepStone Group, and a $20 million venture debt facility from TriplePoint Capital. Overland AI validates its systems in Central Washington's rugged terrain and maintains its engineering operations in Seattle.
