Makr Shakr srl is an Italian company headquartered in Turin that designs and manufactures robotic bartending systems for the hospitality industry. Originating from research at the MIT Senseable City Lab led by Professor Carlo Ratti, with early support from Coca-Cola and Bacardi, the robotic bartender concept was first demonstrated publicly in 2013 at the Salone del Mobile in Milan and at Google I/O. The company launched commercially in 2017 and operates its assembly line in Turin.
Its flagship product, Toni, uses KUKA industrial robotic arms to prepare more than 80 drinks per hour, including cocktails with fresh lemon, mint, and ice. Toni has been deployed in hotels, airports — including Changi Airport in Singapore — and is installed aboard nine Royal Caribbean cruise ships as the Bionic Bar. Since commercial launch, Makr Shakr systems have served more than 4.5 million drinks globally.
The company has received D&AD and Core77 design awards.
