Lenzeel is a Dutch engineering company that develops machines for greenhouse horticulture, with a focus on cucumber cultivation. It is based at Willem Barentszweg 9 in Venlo, in the Limburg region. The company is led by Jan Lenders and Ed Zeelen. Lenzeel describes its approach as working directly with growers, visiting greenhouses to turn growers' ideas into machines, testing and improving them in practice, and providing technical support.
Its main product is the DIPLO C100 series, a patented leaf-picking (de-leafing) robot for high-wire cucumber cultivation. The robot travels autonomously between rows on the greenhouse pipe rail system, with a track width adjustable to the pipe rail size, 360-degree obstacle sensors and an automatic power cable reel that pays out cable according to the driving distance. Its picking unit uses a fan and electrically driven rollers that suck in leaves and pull them from the stem; a UV-C lamp disinfects the picking unit after each pass, a feature added following grower feedback. According to the company, the robot removes at least 80% of the leaves within a 50 cm picking zone. Development and testing took about two years; at test sites the robot was used on 75% of the 2021 crop and saved up to half of leaf-picking labour hours. Deliveries of the first series started in early 2022, and half of that series had been sold to high-wire cucumber growers before delivery. Dutch grower Drenthe Growers is named as a user.
Lenzeel also builds the Kompacker, an automated cucumber packing robot, and lists further machines named The Claw and Uitvouwer.
