"Render the world with intelligence"
Biren Technology is a Shanghai-based AI chipmaker whose Biren GPU series targets data-center AI training, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2026.
Biren Technology, formally Shanghai Biren Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., is a Chinese semiconductor company headquartered in Shanghai that designs general-purpose GPUs for artificial intelligence training and inference. Founded in 2019, the company was established with backing from Qiming Venture Partners, which led its first financing round and remains its largest external institutional investor; its leadership includes co-founder and chairman Zhang Wen, formerly president of SenseTime, alongside engineers with backgrounds at NVIDIA, Huawei, Alibaba, and STMicroelectronics. Biren's flagship products are its Biren (Biluo) GPU series, including the BR100 and BR104 general-purpose accelerators and the newer Biren166 family, offered as the 166M air-cooled OAM module, 166L liquid-cooled OAM module, and 166C inference card, targeted at data center AI acceleration, telecommunications, and fintech workloads. The company describes the BR100 as delivering performance comparable to NVIDIA's H100 processor on certain workloads. Biren also develops BIRENSUPA, a proprietary software development platform for its chips, and as of mid-2026 is working on near-packaged optics interconnect technology intended to link thousands of AI accelerator chips together for large-scale training clusters, an approach aimed at reducing the communication bottlenecks that limit distributed AI training at scale. Biren was added to the U.S. Commerce Department's Entity List in October 2023 amid export control restrictions on advanced semiconductor technology to China, a step that has shaped its product roadmap and customer base toward the domestic Chinese market. Despite these restrictions, the company completed an initial public offering on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on January 2, 2026, under ticker 06082.HK, pricing shares at HK$19.6 and opening at HK$35.7, for a market capitalization of roughly HK$85.54 billion, the first pure-play GPU company listed in Hong Kong. Biren has been recognized domestically as a National High-Tech Enterprise and a Little Giant innovative and specialized enterprise, and its technology won the WAIC SAIL Award in both 2022 and 2025. The company positions itself as a leading domestic alternative to foreign GPU suppliers for Chinese data center and AI infrastructure customers navigating ongoing export-control constraints on advanced chip imports.
