University of Sydney institute, one of the world's largest, with 120+ researchers spanning field, marine, agricultural, and mining robotics.
The Australian Centre for Field Robotics (ACFR), operating as the Australian Centre for Robotics at the University of Sydney, was established as an ARC Key Centre of Teaching and Research in 1999, with origins tracing to the mid-1990s mechatronics group. It is one of the world's largest robotics research institutes, housing over 120 researchers, graduate students, and engineers across more than 1,500 square metres of laboratory space. Research programs span perception, control, and learning for land, air, and sea autonomous systems, with applied programs in agricultural robotics (RIPPA, Swagbot), marine robotics, mining automation, intelligent transportation, and robotic imaging.
The centre forms part of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Autonomous Systems and collaborates with industry partners in mining, aviation, and precision agriculture. It is part of the University of Sydney Faculty of Engineering.
