"It's like magic–only better."
US AMR pioneer founded 2004 in Pittsburgh; manufactures TUG, T3, Zena RX robots for hospital and hospitality logistics; subsidiary of ST Engineering since 2017.
Aethon is a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based autonomous mobile robot (AMR) manufacturer that has pioneered intralogistics automation for healthcare and hospitality since its founding in 2004. Headquartered at 48 26th Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, Aethon is a wholly owned subsidiary of ST Engineering, a Singapore-based global technology, engineering, and defense group that acquired Aethon in July 2017. ST Engineering's US operations alone employ over 7,000 people across 50 cities in 23 states, providing Aethon with global reach and stability.
Aethon's current robot portfolio includes: the Zena RX, a secure clinical delivery AMR for pharmacy medications, laboratory specimens, and sensitive materials, featuring over 10,000 cubic inches of lockable cabinet capacity—2.6 times more than its predecessor, the TUG T2 pharmacy robot; the T3 and T3 XL, heavy-duty AMRs for cart transportation of linens, meals, supplies, and other large loads in both healthcare and hospitality environments; and the Zena, a hospitality robot delivering food, amenities, and packages directly to hotel guest rooms. Enabling technologies include ReadyElevator (autonomous elevator integration hardware and software) and Carrello (a smart cart system). Aethon robots use laser, LiDAR, sonar, and infrared sensors for autonomous navigation without floor modifications, guide wires, or painted markers.
Fleet management software provides real-time monitoring and performance reporting. The company collectively makes approximately 5 million deliveries annually and its robots travel over 300,000 miles per year across customer fleets. Aethon serves more than 125 hospitals, including UCSF Medical Center, AdventHealth, Scripps Health, Allegheny Health Network, Parkview Health, MultiCare, and Penn Highlands Healthcare, as well as hospitality customers including Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, and Loews Hotels.
The original TUG robot—first deployed in 2004—established the category of autonomous hospital delivery robots; subsequent generations and the Zena RX have expanded the platform to new use cases and facility types.
