Aerones is a robotics company founded in 2015 in Riga, Latvia by Dainis Kruze, Janis Putrams, and Andris Dambis, providing wind turbine inspection, cleaning, and maintenance services. The company began as a drone developer before shifting, starting around 2019, to a patented ground-based system of winches and a robotic arm; it now operates from hubs in Riga and Denton, Texas, with more than 240 employees.
Aerones's Crawler Gen 3 travels inside turbine blades to perform internal inspection. For external work, the company uses a ground-mounted, winch-controlled platform with an interchangeable-tool robotic arm to perform blade surface cleaning, erosion repair on the blade's front edge, protective and ice-phobic coating application, drainage hole cleaning, and lightning protection system testing, operated from a ground vehicle rather than by technicians working at height. The company also offers drone-based visual inspection services.
Aerones has serviced more than 6,000 turbines and 14,000 blades across 25 countries, working with wind operators including NextEra Energy, GE Vernova, Vestas, Enel, and Siemens Gamesa. The company is a Y Combinator alumnus and has raised outside capital in multiple rounds, including a $62 million Series B co-led by Activate Capital and S2G Investments in 2025, alongside support from European Union Innovation Fund grants.
