Company Overview

Nextech is a South African unmanned aerial systems company based in Cape Town. Its website states that the business was established in 2013 and now operates from a 3,000 m2 factory in Cape Town with a design centre and departments for production, CNC machining, 3D printing, composite moulding and simulation. The company describes its focus as long-range, high-endurance commercial UAVs and UAS, offered as integrated systems and subsystems for customers in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the United States, and calls itself a supplier to intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance markets. No founders, certifications or named customers are listed on the site.

The main aircraft are the Atlas-V and the Atlas-T. Atlas-V is a fixed-wing VTOL drone that needs no launcher or runway and is sold in an electric version (Atlas-V-E) and a petrol version (Atlas-V-F). The specification tables give a maximum take-off weight of 32 kg for the electric model and 65 kg for the fuel model, payloads of under 5 kg and 15 kg, endurance of about 3 and 10 hours, and a flight ceiling of 4,500 m. The payload bay takes mapping systems, EO/IR cameras with object tracking, LiDAR, thermal and multispectral sensors. Atlas-T is a quadcopter with an 80-minute flight time without payload and 60 minutes with payload, a 15 kg maximum take-off weight, a 12S2P lithium-polymer battery and a stated cruise speed of 50 km/h. Both aircraft list waypoint navigation, follow-me, obstacle detection and avoidance, geo-fencing, return-to-home and encrypted links.

Nextech also sells the communication side of its systems: a ground control system with a self-calibrating antenna tracker, and a 2.4 GHz digital datalink that carries encrypted IP, PPM and serial traffic at up to 25 Mbps with 1 W or 8 W RF power. A software portal for the ground station is hosted at gcs.nextech.online. Separately, the company states that it is an official DJI authorised reseller and lists Matrice 350 RTK, Matrice 4 series and DJI Dock 2 and Dock 3 systems, with configuration, training and maintenance support. A Formlabs case study describes Nextech printing payload brackets and battery locators in-house on an SLS printer and mentions a fixed-wing survey of Arctic icecaps carried out for the French government. The About page lists Silvus under affiliations without describing the relationship. Sales contact is by form, email and telephone through the Cape Town office.
