Company Overview

Teledyne FLIR LLC is a thermal imaging and sensing company headquartered in Wilsonville, Oregon, and a business of Teledyne Technologies (NYSE: TDY). It traces back to FLIR Systems, founded in 1978 to build low-cost infrared imaging systems for airborne use. Teledyne announced the roughly $8 billion acquisition of FLIR Systems in January 2021 and completed it in May 2021, after which the company continued as Teledyne FLIR. At the time of the announcement it reported more than 4,000 employees worldwide.

The company organizes its business into Industrial and Public Safety, OEM, Defense and Marine units. Product lines include portable inspection cameras, continuous monitoring, optical gas imaging, test and measurement, security, intelligent transportation systems and thermal machine vision. The OEM unit supplies thermal camera modules such as the Boson series, including the Boson SX8 with an 8 micron pixel pitch and 1280 x 1024 resolution, and the Lepton series, plus Prism software for ground ISR and counter-UAS use. These modules are built into drones, robots and vehicles as perception sensors.

Its unmanned systems portfolio grew through acquisitions: Prox Dynamics (Black Hornet Nano nano-drone, 2016), Aeryon Labs (drones, 2019) and Endeavor Robotics (unmanned ground vehicles, 2019). Teledyne FLIR also serves defense, aerospace and industrial inspection customers.
