"Open Source Autopilot for Drones"
Open-source flight control software for drones and unmanned vehicles, originating at ETH Zurich and maintained by the Dronecode Foundation.
PX4 Autopilot is an open-source flight control software stack initiated in 2009 at ETH Zurich by Lorenz Meier and colleagues in the Computer Vision and Geometry Lab. It is maintained as a vendor-neutral community project by the Dronecode Foundation, a Linux Foundation Collaborative Project, which holds all PX4 trademarks and ensures open governance. PX4 supports a wide range of unmanned vehicle platforms including multirotors, fixed-wing aircraft, VTOL platforms, rovers, boats, and underwater vehicles — from racing drones to industrial survey aircraft.
Licensed under BSD 3-Clause, the software runs on NuttX RTOS and Linux. It powers the widely adopted Pixhawk autopilot hardware standard. As an open-source project governed by Dronecode (Linux Foundation), PX4 has no commercial headquarters; its country attribution is CHE, reflecting its origins at ETH Zurich, Switzerland.
PX4 is broadly adopted in commercial, research, defense, and DIY drone ecosystems worldwide.
